How would you feel if you looked up at your ceiling to find THIS beastie crawling across it??
I called the rest of my family in to come take a look and then got a series of pictures of the thing!
I consider myself pretty up on spider folk in my area, but this one had me stumped...looks sorta like a wolf spider, but the legs are too long and it's WAY too big. "is it a brown recluse?" No no fiddle on the carapace (And its WAY TOO BIG).
Stumped my daughter ended up looking it up on line (After we caught it and released it out of doors). Turns out it's a "Golden Huntsman" or a "Giant Crab" spider. In all my years I've never seen one of these!
That tape measure says it all...the thing was the largest spider I've seen in this area next to the tarantulas.

Neat! I tend to usher the big ones out the door, but I don't usually mind spiders (much). I'm happy to let them take care of the other bugs that manage to get in my house.
Of course, my three cats tend to eat anything that moves so anything coming into the house is taking its life in its hands (or claws). Case in point - I found a dead Texas Earth Snake in my den the other day.
